Quakers in Holland
CROSS STITCH PATTERN READY TO DOWNLOAD, DESIGNED BY Tempting Tangles
A keen and talented designer of Quaker patterns, Deborah A. Dick of Tempting Tangles brings a new dimension to her favorite motifs.
Although the Quaker movement was initiated in England, Quaker groups established themselves in Holland, fleeing persecution.
This pattern is subtitled "Impressions in Holland". It features a lovely Dutch cityscape, with a canal and bridge in the foreground, rows of houses, with stunning architectural detail. A second row of houses, more like silhouettes, gives an impression of depth. It is stitched in lighter tones of blue, and worked in tent stitch (or half stitch).
Quaker motifs fill the sky, together with symbols of the Kingdom of Holland (tulips) and a stork, such as the one that features on the coat of arms of the city of The Hague.
The pattern does not include any specialty stitches. The background can be worked in tent stitch or equivalent half stitch. Colors listed are DMC although conversion to Dinky Dyes Silk is also available.
