Delft Blue alphabet
CROSS STITCH PATTERN READY TO DOWNLOAD, DESIGNED BY Lesley Teare Designs
Brought to you by Lesley Teare, this lovely cross stitch alphabet is designed in the style of Delft blue and white pottery. The name comes from the Dutch city of Delft, where the industry was first created in the 17 th and 18th century. Inspired originally by porcelain imported from Japan and China, the town created a style of its own, in hues of blue on white porcelain or enamel.
The alphabet design is a very decorative piece in itself. You could however shuffle letters to create words to stitch, for instance as a Welcome sign, or as decorative name plates for bathroom, powder room etc.
The stitching involves 4 hues of the same blue, with a darker thread used to outline the letters. Motifs within the letters are evocative of flowers and birds, including peacocks.
The pattern includes fractional stitches, as well as French knots adding extra detail to the motifs within the letters, making it very refined.
A tutorial is included with the chart for all stitches.
