The Swatchables Collection is designed by Kathy Bungard of Gracewood Stitches

 

In the designers own words:

"What's a swatchable? It is my new collection of designs that take one basic motif and variations with that motif that you
can use to go in a few different directions.
I hope stitchers will make them their own by using the ideas presented or adding their own preferences for colors and
configurations."

 

Creative Poppy says:

The rondo them reminds us of old terracotta tiles that you can find in parts of France and Mediterranean countries. The pattern is very ornamental and versatile. You can rotate and/or assemble the motifs as you see fit. The designer also offers several additional cross stitch charts with combinations of ideas, the "Variations":
- A shifted tiling pattern 
- A diamond where the main motif has been cut and put back together in a new shape
- A sampler with a border frame and twhere you can cross stitch your own text using the alphabet provided

The Swatchable collection is suitable for a large number of projects as you can extend the pattern to suit your needs - from tiny square projects such as needlebooks and glassses-cases to large cushion covers. 

 

This pattern is called "Rondo" evoking ​​the musical variations of a same theme found in a rondo. It is stitched in two colors, shown here is a soft  harmony of blue and brown. However feel free to choose your own color scheme, especially if stitching for your home.

 

As an alternative to cross stitch, the pattern is also perfectly suited for needlepoint/tapestry, in tent stitch on blank canvas. Fill each color square of the grid in tent stitch and blank areas with the thread colors of your choice.
