Mathilde Pecherans
CROSS STITCH REPRODUCTION SAMPLER PATTERN, READY TO DOWNLOAD, BY Couleur Tourterelle
Mathilde Pecherans stitched this small sampler using wool thread on canvas. It measures 10 x 9 ½ inch (25cm x 24cm). The date has unfortunately disappeared, leaving a single digit (8) left.
The sampler features two multicolored alphabets and a small ornamental motif depicting two peacocks facing each other around a central fruit basket.
Letters, an additional bird and a date (1869) were later added, using a more shiny thread and probably not by Mathilde herself. It would often happen that a little sister, for instance, practiced on her sibling’s sampler. The reproduction sampler does not take the later additions into account, as the date is not related to the original work and additional letters have little relevance.
The original sampler can be seen in the last image. The reproduction sampler is stitched on 40ct linen, over two threads using DMC embroidery floss.
Tip : why not use your use leftover threads for stitching this small multicolor sampler? It is the perfect project for using up all these little tidbits of threads and unidentified skeins. Follow the original sampler as a guide and substitute similar colors or go your own way. Have fun !
