Antique sampler: "Maria Bougerolle 1905"
REPRODUCTION SAMPLER CHARTED BY MURIEL BERCEVILLE - COUNTED CROSS STITCH
This elegant sampler, graced with butterflies and birds, was stitched in 1905 and has been signed by the stitcher with her full name, Maria Bougerolle, in white stitches.
The antique sampler is still in its original “Napoleon III” period frame and is of French origin. This sampler follows a the typical layout of samplers of the time but is devoid of any religious references: the top part features a large, wide-spaced letter alphabet in two colors, the name of the stitcher is cross-stitched in "openwork effect" letters below, and the lower part embellished with multicolor motifs of roses, birds and butterflies. Two different borders frame the piece, one with a carnation motif.
Reproduction of an antique alphabet, charted by Muriel Berceville.
