Russian Revolution (1917)
CROSS STITCH PATTERN READY TO DOWNLOAD, DESIGNED BY GERA! Kyoko Maruoka
This pattern by Kyoko Maruoka (GERA!) is quite unique, both in terms of its subject, and in terms of its composition.
The revolution took place in October 1917 and resulted in the fall of Tsar Nicholas II, the Bolshevik taking power, and eventually the establishment of the Soviet Union. These events would have tremedous consequences on many 20th century events that followed.
The design of this cross stitch pattern is unique in the way it is constructed, focusing on the movement of workers, soldiers and vehicles in a single direction, as if showing the strong determination of the people to take power. Surrounding them are buildings evocative of Russian architecture, the old order now burning and replaced with the hammer and sickle flag. With its use of colors, its focus on the people, the design also hints to the posters and illustrations of the time, showing workers as heroes.
There is a companion to this design, The French revolution, Kyoko Maruoka actually having designed them as a pair.
