Decorative Delft Tiles
CROSS STITCH PATTERN READY TO DOWNLOAD, DESIGNED BY Lesley Teare Designs
Golden Age Holland was a period of great prosperity and artistic achievement. The city of Delft saw an amazing develoment of pottery, in particular tiles painted in different hues of blue on a white background, seeking to replicate the white and blue porcelain imported from China by the West Indies company. Dutch potters adapted the Chinese landscape depictions and oriental floral motifs with miniatures scenes of the Dutch seascape and landscape.
This cross stitch chart reproduces some of the most popular themes of the time, the tradeships plying the seas and the windmills caracteristic of the Dutch landscape and flatlands. The floral motifs by contrast still bear a heavy oriental influence.
These pretty square patterns can be easily adapted for kitchen item cross stitch projects: ideas include decorating the pocket of an apron, making a bread bag, or a series of matching potholders.
This chart comes with an extensive Cross stitch Guide detailing all stitches including fractional stitches.
