Enter Kateryna's magical forest in Winter, when the cold bites and snow and ice cover everything. Even the moon's thin mustache is all iced up.
Hedgehogs are hibernating, tucked into a hole in the snow. Notice the whole family repeated in miniature within the frame border. This design is indeed two pictures in one, with the younger animals, baby deer, fox and hare also featured in the border motif. The main motif features a stag, an owl, a fox, a hare, a red robin.
Never missing from the magical forest of slavic fairy tales is Baba Yaba's isba, a log cabin perched on chicken feet. It's covered with icicles. Look close and you will spot the old witch observing us through the window.
This design, cross stitched on gray evenweave, offers a perfect contrast for highlighting the white that dominates the whole design, complemented by the dark tones of fir trees and animals.
