Alice meets the caterpillar
CROSS STITCH PATTERN READY TO DOWNLOAD, DESIGNED BY GERA! by Kyoko Maruoka
This is an interesting episode in Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland. Alice has shrunk to the size of a mushroom.
"She stretched herself up on tiptoe, and peeped over the edge of the mushroom, and her eyes immediately met those of a large caterpillar, that was sitting on the top with its arms folded, quietly smoking a long hookah, and taking not the smallest notice of her or of anything else.
The Caterpillar and Alice looked at each other for some time in silence: at last the Caterpillar took the hookah out of its mouth, and addressed her in a languid, sleepy voice.
`Who are YOU?' said the Caterpillar."
Kyoko Maruoka's rendering in cross stitch of this part of the story is absolutely delightful. Alice and the caterpillar are pictured in a wonderful garden, with flowers and ferns of extraordinary shapes and color. The mushroom itself is exquisitely detailed, with mutiple shades of red and beige and white rings on its foot. Perched atop is the caterpillar, in bright stripes of turquoise, green and yellow, a look of surprise on its face as it is interrupted by Alice's arrival.
