Physalys plants, also known as Cape gooseberry or Chinese lantern,  bear cheerful orange fruit in Autumn. Faby Reilly skillfully depicts in cross stitch their delicate lanterns contrasting against the dark foliage. One of the lanterns has already turned into its delicate lace like shape and is worked in Gold metallic, in running stitch.

The pattern is part of the designer's delightful year-round collection of needlework flowers, one for each month of the year, the Anthea collection.

Each floral motif of this calendar can be stitched:

- either with the name of each month

- or customized with the name of a person, or words of your choice

An alphabet chart (caps and lower case) as well as a blank chart for positionning letters are provided with the chart 

These designs make great Greeting cards and Birthday cards that follow the seasons. You can also stitch all the months of the year, creating a perpetual calendar where you rotate the design each month.

This chart is advanced level. It includes specialty stitches such as the diamond eyelet stitch, as well as seedbeads and a corresponding tutorial for each stitch. 
 

The pattern is designed in two user-friendly steps. The first chart is cross stitch only. A second chart covers the extra backstitch detail as well as the specialty stitch embellishments and seed beads. 

Threads include solid color DMC floss, DMC Color Variations and Gold metallic from the DMC Diamond range.

A step-by-step tutorial for framing your work also comes together with the chart.

A tutorial is included with the chart for all specialty stitches.
