Maria Moracchini 1905 Reproduction Sampler
REPRODUCTION SAMPLER PATTERN, READY TO DOWNLOAD, BY Couleur Tourterelle
The central part of this sampler, which makes it so moving, is the spirited goat, that looks like it wants to chew at anything it can reach.
Dated August 1905, and signed Marie Moracchini, it was completed in Piediquercio, a hamlet in the Mediterranean island of Corsica, with a fabulous view overlooking the coastal plain and the sea.
The island of Corsica is also known as the scented island, for a reason. Lying off the coast of France and Italy, surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea, it is famous for its « maquis », the scrubland typical of the island, where goats roam freely feeding on wildflowers, aromatic plants and prickly bushes growing among the stones. Marie Moracchini’s little red sampler immediately brings Corsica to our mind.
This sampler is part of the personal collection of Meriem Chauvet of Couleur Tourterelle. The reproduction cross stitch chart strictly reproduces every stitch and matches all colors of the original sampler (see last photo).
Original Sampler (last photo) worked in cross stitch, over 2 fabric threads.
