Blackwork Anemones and Blue-Tit
BLACKWORK PATTERN READY TO DOWNLOAD, DESIGNED BY Lesley Teare Designs
A small blue tit had just landed among the spring flowers: daffodils, pansies, primroses, a mix of pretty yellow and orange tones associated with mauve and purple.
What makes this design really special is the mix of embroidery techniques. Unlike the other flowers worked in cross stitch, the anemones are worked in a more abstract and geometric pattern, in the Blackwork technique. Seed beads are used for the stamens, giving extra emphasis on the hearts of the anemones.
Like cross stitch, Blackwork is a counted thread technique, with stitches charted on a grid. A majority of stitches are backstitch, with some cross stitch filling certain areas. The chart comes with an extensive Stitching Guide detailing all stitches including fractional stitches.
