Myrtle & Rose
CROSS STITCH PATTERN READY TO DOWNLOAD, DESIGNED BY Tempting Tangles
"Knowest thou the land where the lemon trees bloom,
Where the golden orange glows in the deep thicket’s gloom,
Where a wind ever soft from the blue heavens blows,
And the groves are of laurel and myrtle and rose?"
The charming quote is from the works of 18th century German writer Goethe. It later also inspired Beethoven to turn it into music.
Deborah A. Dick of Tempting Tangles designed the needlework version in the manner of an antique sampler, surrounding it with layers of ornate borders alternating with lines of Alphabet monograms and numbers.
While the basis is cross stitch, there are a number of beautiful embellishments including Blackwork, Algerian eyelets and Smyna stitches, in particular in the lower row with intricate motifs.
In the words of the designer:
"This piece is destined to become an heirloom".
