Here is a delightful little cross stitch sampler with children at school, learning to read, drawing and painting with bright colors. Designer Perrette Samouiloff has no equal when it comes to tenderly depicting the joys of childhood, in small embroidered scenes.

The attractive colors used for this design look like a box of new pencils, in cheerful colors of yellow, orange, red, mauve ... the kind that makes children want to get their new schoolbag ready and go off to school.

The cross stitch chart includes some three-quarter stitches used in particular to depict the well-sharpened pencils (if you look closely, you'll notice one of the pencils has already lost its lead ....).

You can cross stitch the chart as a whole, including its ABC. Alternatively, use the alphabet  to customize the stitched piece with a child's name.

The pattern can be adapted for making many children's items, such as a bag for snacks or for gym shoes.
