Camaïeu Blues
CROSS STITCH PATTERN READY TO DOWNLOAD, DESIGNED BY Perrette Samouiloff
This lovely pattern is designed in five continuous shades of the same blue, hence the word "Camaïeu". This technique was used for antique printed textiles, such as early 19th century Toile de Jouy. The classic birds and roses motifs are also inspired by those vintage printed fabrics.
The cross stitch motif comes in a circular shape, with the motif interrupted, as if cut out to fit into a circular frame. It can therefore be displayed in a round frame or a hoop (8inch / 20cm on 14ct Aida or 28ct linen). However, as the circle is clearly defined, it would also look stunning in a square frame, with or without a round mount.
The pattern includes a couple of fractional stitches, used for birds beaks, lighter rose petals, and for a crisp outline of the outer circle.
