Japanese Snowscape
CROSS STITCH PATTERN READY TO DOWNLOAD, DESIGNED BY Maria Diaz
Here's a Japanese Snowscape, designed by Maria Diaz in the manner of the old japanese prints also called Ukiyo-e. You may be familiar with the famous wave by the great master Hokusai, where a snowy mount Fuji appears in the background. This particular cross stitch design features Mount Fuji seen from a different perspective with a snowy landscape and country village.
In the foreground, three women are making their way slowly towards the village. They are wearing heavy coats over their kimono and carrying an umbrella to shelter from the cold. To the right is a lake mirroring the blue sky. A wooden bridge joins both banks. To the left is the sleepy village with traditional thatched roofs heavy with snow. Mount Fuji, with its characteristic volcano shape, looms in the distance.
Maria Diaz chose to stitch the piece on a light beige fabric, therefore letting the white stitches of the snow blend softly into the landscape. The details of the trees, village, and mountains are stitched in a palette of sepia colors. The only true color is that of the lake and the clear blue sky. Additional touches of white iridescent embroidery floss have been used to highligh some details of the snow.
