This sophisticated design combines cross stitch and Blackwork*, creating rich ornemental effects.
The pattern features the 3 wise men, having travelled from the Orient guided by a star until they reach Bethlehem and find the newborn Christ in a manger. They are paying tribute and bringing their offerings of gold, myrrh and frankincense.
The Wise Men's dress is of great opulence, with heavy drapes and woven textile patterns of extreme delicacy. These patterns are stitched in the blackwork technique, and enhanced with gold metallic threads.
*Like cross stitch, Blackwork is a counted thread technique, with stitches represented on a grid. A majority of stitches are backstitch, with some cross stitch filling certain areas. The chart comes with an extensive Stitching Guide detailing all stitches including fractional stitches.
