A pair of birds are getting ready to nest.... in a quaint little teacup.

This cross stitch pattern by Lesley Teare contrasts the distinct shape of the fine china teacup and the fluttery feel of the birds wings. Notice how the backstitch details are treated differently. The birds' bright eyes shine like black beads, with a tiny touch of white.

Simple cross stitches are used with just a couple of fractionals on the eyes for detail. The backstitches can be worked as such, or as long stitches when required.

The finished piece will measure 7 x 7 inch (18 x 18 cm) when stitched on 14 ct Aida or 28 ct evenweave. You can stitch the piece on a variety of color backgrounds including natural, white, light pink and other pastel colors.
