Here's the Oriental Crane design, a gorgeous cross stitch piece designed by Lesley Teare Designs.

The layout is inspired by traditional Japanese designs. With it's wide open wings, the crane almost seems to wrap around the round frame, its beak intersecting the disk of the sun, central in the background.

The choice of colours however is decidedly contemporary, with the turquoise frame contrasting with the bright salmon-pink.

This pattern is entirely stitched in cross stitch, with colors clearly delimited in blocks. It's therefore an easy stitch that would be suitable for a beginner with just a bit of experience of cross stitch.  The chart comes with an extensive Cross stitch Guide.
