Glorious Seahorse
CROSS STITCH PATTERN READY TO DOWNLOAD, DESIGNED BY Lesley Teare Designs
The seahorse is a strange and fascinating sea animal: a fish, but swimming vertically ... and whose armored body is more like a shellfish.
Its also called a hippocampus, beacuse of its head that strangely resembles that of a horse, with the difference that it is crowned with small characteristic spikes.
A large dorsal fin, which the seahorse moves slowly, allows it to float and remain static, on the lookout for his prey. Its tail finally, wraps in a spiral shape. Its used to cling onto seaweed or leaves of posidonia.
Lesley Teare has designed a no less fascinating hippocampus, in cross stitch. Its radiating fins, its bone ringed body, its crown, its watchful eye are described with extraordinary precision. The colors are pushed to the extreme, to highlight the unique shapes of the animal, playing with pikes and troughs, in shades of colored shadows enhanced with metallic blue thread.
The water surrounding the hippocampus is suggested in light touches, with fine arabesques dotted with seedbeads, like bubbles in water. The pice si stitched is done on blue needlework fabric of your choice.
The chart comes with an extensive Cross stitch Guide detailing all stitches including fractional stitches.
