There's a slighly vintage touch in this floral cross stitch sampler arranged in the manner of a botanical print, and the feeling that flowers have been arranged a bit aphazardly, as if we had walked around a garden and stopped to admire them in no particular order.

Lesley Teare is a great observer of nature as well as a talented designer, able to accurately depict in cross stitch the characteristics of each individual plant. The chart lists no fewer than 34 colors DMC stranded cotton, a large palett covering all the tones of the flowers. Represented among others are: an iris, pansies roses, bluebells, fox gloves, violets and an anemone.

The design is worked in full cross stitches (no fractional stitches). Some details of the antennae of the butterflies are in backstitch and French knots are used for the stamens of the anemone and for the floral border. You can substitute them with black and purple seed beads if you prefer.

The stitched piece measures 12 inch wide x 12 inch high (25.5 cm x 30 cm) when stitched on 14 ct Aida or 28ct evenweave, perfect for a small picture decorating a room.
