Blue Jay amongst Oak leaves
BLACKWORK PATTERN READY TO DOWNLOAD, DESIGNED BY Lesley Teare Designs
Native of North America, the blue jay sports an extraordinary plumage, with a crest and wing feathers in beautiful shades of blue.
The jay is worked here in cross stitch embroidery, surrounded by oak leaves worked in Blackwork. Indeed, the inside of the leaves are filled with delicate lace-like backstitch motifs. Designer Lesley Teare is particularly fond of this technique and has created many bird designs combining cross stitch and Blackwork.
Like cross stitch, Blackwork is a counted thread technique, with stitches represented on a grid. A majority of stitches are backstitch, with some cross stitch filling certain areas. The chart comes with an extensive Stitching Guide detailing all stitches including fractional stitches.
