This dragon really cuts out a fine figure, doesn't it, stretching all the way across and spitting fire in its path?

The beautiful Chinese-inspired motif is rendered in exquisite detail, in a combination of backstitch and cross stitch, where backstitch is predominant, namely Blackwork. A chart is used, with symbols and lines, exactly similar to cross stitch. 

The body on the dragon is compartmentalized into different areas, which are filled with tiny Blackwork motifs of different densities, therefore creating wonderful shading and contrast. A remarkable designing job.

Blackwork requires a little patience and needlework experience. It is not suitable for a beginner cross stitcher. It will make a wonderful project though for an experieneced stitcher looking for a bit of challenge.
