A keen birdwatcher, Lesley Teare is an expert at capturing birds in cross stitch. Here for the first time she has featured a design with 12 birds native to North America including: Blue Jay, Goldfinch, Stella Jay, Baltimore Oriole, Ruby throated Hummingbird, Black Capped Chickadee, Carolina Wren, both Red-breasted and White-breasted Nuthatch, Northern Cardinal, Red-bellied Woodpecker and American Robin.

While some birds bear a similar name, they are separated from their European counterparts by a whole ocean and can have very different features. Take the red-robin for example. The British one, celebrated on many Christmas cards, is smaller and rounder than its american counterpart. The American robin, while sporting a similar orange chest, is quite a different shape, with a deep black head sticking out of its body, and a larger, yellow beak. 

The bird sampler is set within an ornamental frame, which holds the design together. The birds are roughly set in 4 rows of 3 and interspersed with floral motifs. The pattern was previously released as a 2024 Lesley Teare SAL.

The chart is mostly cross stitch, with areas outlined in backstitch, a couple of French knots as well as some fractional stitches for detail. Each bird motif is very colorful and full of rich detail.

The piece is designed to be stitched on any white fabric of your choice, be it Aida, evenweave or linen.
