Having fun in the snow

An irresistible retro-style depiction of children having fun learning to ski, by Perrette Samouiloff. This is a time when skis where made of wood, ski boots had laces and a humble ski-lift would be the only way to take you up save of climbing on foot!

Stitch your very own nativity scene

How better to get into the true Christmas spirit than to stitch your very own nativity scene. Faby Reilly's depiction of holy Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus is incredibly peaceful and tender, the perfect medium for a message of Hope, Joy and Peace.

The motif comes in two versions, one an ornament than can be hung or placed on a mantelpiece, and the full version that is designed to be framed.

Lighting up for Christmas

New! This cute lantern ornament by Tam's Creations has four sides with a clever "trompe-l'oeil" effect showing the candle as if it was inside the lantern. The design is stitched in two colors, an overdyed and a metallic. You can easily substitute the background colors and use your own choice of threads so you could even make several sets of lanterns!

Unique Stitched jewelry

With Faby Reilly's minute sense of stitching, it's obvious her patterns would adapt perfectly on jewelry projects. Here's her first stitched jewelry piece, combining a bracelet and a matching pendant.

This pattern combines cross stitch as a background and specialty stitches that create a raised embroidery effect. The result is stunning.

As usual, the designer takes you by the hand for a perfect professional-like finish.

Irresistible itch to stitch

What is it that makes Barbara Ana's designs so irresistible?

Take the latest new design, Autumn tree: is it the cute red polka dot dress matching the red mushroom? Or the cat hiding behind the tree? The colorful leaves that stand out as if they were charms? The bright eyed crows? The tiny squirrels looking for giant acorns? Whatever makes you tick, Barbara Ana patterns are great fun to stitch from the first to the very last stitch.

Stormy seas ahead

Here's a unique format for your home decor projects. This nautical theme is designed as a band that reads like a continuous story, from the lighthouse on the left, to the tiny boat fighting the rough seas. The pattern can be cut, or prolonged to fit virtually any project for bathrooms or children's rooms.

A new design by Faby Reilly, in a beautiful palette of floss colors.

Tips for stitching on bath towels

High Seas band (Nautical decor)
cross stitch pattern
by Faby Reilly Designs

Bath towels make beautiful stitching projects and you can even coordinate them with toilet bags and pouches.

Here are some tips for stitching on terry towel.

Basically there are two options:

- Ready to Stitch terry towels, with a woven Aida area designed for stitching (available from DMC depending on your country, from Rico and several other brands. Charles Crafts only offers small sizes though). On the plus-side, it's easy and straightforward. You only need to make sure your pattern (in stitches) fits in the band's height and width. The only drawback is that the reverse of your stitching will show, so you need to be extra careful to do a clean job with your stitching.

- Stitching on an Aida band and sewing in on regular towels. This allows much more flexibility in your choice of quality, size and color and might be a cheaper option too. The back of your stitching won't show, so that's really nice. The stitched band is sewn onto the terry towel so you'll need a sewing machine and you should check the thickness so make sure it can be handled by the sewing machine.

Regarding thread colors, make sure you stitch with colorfast colors, such as DMC floss, which can we washed at high temperature. Avoid using bleach however when you launder the towels.

Finally, make sure that the start and end of your threads are extra secure, slipping the ends under a few more stitches than usual. It would be a great pity if the stitching came undone after a few washes.

Other than that, these are fun projects that make great gifts (especially if you personalize them with initials or names)

Quick, let's go out and play

Friends are waiting outside. Quick, I must put on "my boots, my gloves, my hat, my dress, my warm socks".

A little sing-song theme, in Perrette Samouiloff's unique style, just perfect for decorating a toddler's room.

Beautiful and well organized

No doubt there will be plenty of room to accommodate you threads, scissors and needles so they are nice and handy when you need them. This pouch even contains a small ort-bag to keep little bits of thread out of the way.

The round "roll" shape , designed by Muriel Berceville, is quite unique, as well as the lovely phrase stitched on the flap: " Where needle goes, thread always follows".

Vintage Barbara Ana

Barbara Ana's latest pattern is, true to her inimitable style, a mix of tradition and personal whimsy. The sampler is a classic composition, in beautiful shades of floss, and based on a verse by William Shakespeare. There is just a hint of Halloween fun with the witches and cats, but this is still a piece you would enjoy all year round. The framing, with a creative combination of vintage style fabrics and felt, reinforces the character of the pattern.
