Kyoko's Studio, cross stitch from JapanWelcoming a new designer, Kyoko of Japan

Creative Poppy is proud to welcome a new designer, Kyoko's Studio.

Kyoko is very much inspired by nature and the seasons. Her motto is "another day, another stitch", each day bringing more poetic images she feels the urge to transpose into needlework, a stitch at a time.

This pattern is dedicated to an old friend, a very old cherry tree that grows in front of her window and when, year after year, a little miracle occurs and the venerable old branches suddenly burts into bloom.

A unique baseball cap to cross stitch!

Here is a truly creative project brought to you by designer Tam's Creations who fine tuned a mounting technique that lets you cross stitch and finish a baseball cap starting from scratch with only needlework fabric and some basic supplies. You don't even need a sewing machine as the pieces can be assembled using the backstitch guide and a slipstitch. The stitching part is fun too with a "freestyle" combination of floss colors.

December quiz: and the winners are...

Congratulations to Susan H. who found the right answer to our quiz question:

"How many birds are there in Barbara Ana's 'All Creatures Great and small' Sampler"?

If you count the weathercock, there are indeed 23 birds in the sampler, including blackbirds, owls, hens and chicks, and even a stork. Veronique B. came a close second. All winners received their Creative Poppy vouchers to spend on our website.

New in the Vintage textiles Collection, by Gracewood Stitches

Japan, and more specifically Kyoto, its ancient capital, is the source of inspiration for this new addition to the Vintage textile cross stitch designs by Kathy Bungard of Gracewood Stitches.

Blue hues, with contrasting white motifs were used extensively in traditional woven fabrics in Japan. The Kyoto cross stitch pattern renders the wowen feel of this ancient art.

Finishing ideas: tray lining in cross stitch

Here's a beautiful idea for your cross stitch projects, lining the bottom of a tray with a splendid cross stitch mat. The picture shows the Alsace design from Gracewood Stitches. Any other of the designer's gorgeous patterns from the Vintage Textiles collection would be equally suitable as they can all be adapted to any size of object. Further more you can easily adapt your own colors to suit your home interior hues.

We suggest selecting a tray with vertical sides, which frames the mat neatly.

What can you use a tray for? For serving coffee for sure, but there are plenty of other decorative uses in home decor such as organizing objects on a coffee table, a beside table, a chest of draws...
