Folk Costume with Red Kerchief
COUNTED CROSS STITCH CHART BY IVETA HLAVINOVA
Designer Iveta Hlavinova is very interested in the regional folkarts of her country, Slovakia. Traditions are still very much alive and local villagers love to wear their magnificent costumes for song and dance festivals and other gatherings.
This design, like the pending Folk costume with White coiffe, depicts a summer folk dress. The white blouse with beribboned short sleeves and gathered collar is layered with a richly embroidered bodice with neat little buttons. The bell shaped skirt is embellished with a smaller apron with a characteristic woven design. The red knot positionned in the center show this is a young maid (married women would wear it sideways).
This is a very interesting design to stitch because of the richness of the detail, but you will also be rewarded by it's vivid colors and decorative effect.
