Thumbelina
CROSS STITCH PATTERN READY TO DOWNLOAD, DESIGNED BY Gera! by Kyoko Maruoka
Thumbelina is a well-loved fairy tale, originally told by Hans Christian Andersen.
The tiny girl is not taller than a thumb. Legend says that she was born in a flower and that's the image that GERA's designer choses to illustrate this tale. The oversize stem and petals of the flower seem to shelter little Thumbelina as it were a cradle.
Below the flower, nature is luxuriant, lush dense greenery, beautifully rendered in cross stitch. It has however a slightly menacing feel, preluding Thumbelina's destiny, who will have to pass many a trial in the middle of this green jungle before finding her prince.
The cross stitch design is quite stylized, with a vintage touch evocative the 70s and children's books of the time.
