The little Mermaid
CROSS STITCH PATTERN READY TO DOWNLOAD, DESIGNED BY Gera! by Kyoko Maruoka
Here's Kyoko Maruoka's illustration in cross stitch of the little mermaid.
The fairy tale, originally written by the Danish Hans Christian Andersen, tells the story of the mermaid, ready to abandon the sea world in exchange for a human soul.
The mermaid is depicted in cross stitch, on a background of girly pink linen, swimming at the bottom of the sea, surrounded by fish, corals, seaweed and colorful shells.
In a beautiful methaphor, the fish swim upwards, and they grow wings, turning into birds. In the same way, the spirit of the little mermaid aspires to escape the sea world, and rush towards the sky, symbolized in the stitched piece by a motif suggesting the brilliant force of light, attracting the mermaid like precious stones.
