In traditional pre-war Tokyo, on a beautiful evening, a girl is riding a swan, lost in her thoughts. A weeping cherry tree blooms nearby and the full moon reflects on the lake.

The design is inspired by a scene in the novel by Osamu Dazai, The Schoolgirl.  The novel deals with adolescence and all the thoughts playing havoc in the young girl's mind.

Kyoko Maruoka's cross stitch work reproduces, with a touch of nostalgia, detail of the stalls and traditional wooden houses, now having disappeared in modern Japan.
