Bathing is a Japanese ritual par excellence. Here the young girl seems as lost in the vast basin as she is lost in her thoughts. Intricate background motifs, like plays of light, mirror in their complexity the young girl's intense questionning. A stained glass window seems to represent paradise lost. 

The design is inspired by the quote from the bathing scene in the novel by Osamu Dazai, The Schoolgirl.  The novel deals with adolescence and all the thoughts playing havoc in a young girl's mind.
