Alice in Wonderland Miniatures
CROSS STITCH PATTERN READY TO DOWNLOAD, DESIGNED BY Gera! by Kyoko Maruoka
As opposed to traditional fairy tales, Lewis Carroll's Adventures of Alice in Wonderland features unexpected and complex characters. Alice's story is indeed a succession of meetings with weird and bizarre creatures, as she goes from one surprise to another. Many artists have been fascinated by the story and have created their own illustrations.
Needlework designer Kyoko Maruoka, GERA!'s designer is one of them. She too is drawn to the story and inspired to illustrate it in cross stitch. Her patterns are very colorful and full of fantasy.
Here are portraits of 3 of the novel's extraordinary characters:
- The eternally late White Rabbit - the one Alice follows at the beginning of the book - is elegantly dressed and holding a pocket watch.
- The Cheshire Cat has a huge mischievous grin on its face (a grin that remains visible even when the cat's body disappears) and is carrying tiny Alice on its back.
- Finally the Queen of Hearts, ruling over Wonderland, her head deformed by rage.
We suggest you frame the stitched pieces, in the same manner as the designer, in small rectangular or oval medallion shaped frames, that are reminiscient of old portrait galleries.
You can pair these three Alice miniatures with two more portraits (see below), one of Alice helself, one of the Hatter. Both are holding a companion, the cat in the case of Alice, and the sleepy dorrmouse, in the case of the hatter, it's head sticking out of a teapot.
