Over the seas pictures two sailing vessels getting ready to throw anchor in a bay. Besides the sailors onboard the ship is a character in a hat, probably an important passenger who has travelled from overseas. It's a stormy day. There is a whale in the distance. The sails are flying wildly in the wind, white waves are cresting in front of the ships, birds are flying above, fighting the wind. Everyone must be relieved to be in sight of the shore and the lighthouse, to spot the local fisherman and see the first sign of houses on the waterfront.

 

By contrast, just below water is a completely different world. Both worlds seem to be cohabiting, oblivious to one another. A mermaid and other fantastic creatures are swimming in the tranquil waters, together with all the fish, crabs, hippocampus, jelly fish and strange snake like creatures like the one peering out of the underwater cave.

 

 

This piece was stitched on 32 ct. Limestone Linen from Zweigart. Each part is stitched separately on a different piece of color linen from the Zweigart range. Parts where then assembled leaving an unstitched margin (8 to 10 stitch wide) on each side of bands. We have provided a list of colors below should you want to stitch the whole piece.
