Medieval Rug
CROSS STITCH PATTERN READY TO DOWNLOAD, DESIGNED BY Barbara Ana Designs
Inspired by the warm carpets that would be found in ancient castles, this design is stitched, tapestry style, with the cross stitches covering the entire fabric. To emphasize its design as a rug, a fringe has been added at each end (see photo).
Notice the extra twist of the pattern, with the two ladies inverted, as in a playing card. One side up is a lady clad in brown, the other way up is a lady clad in aqua blue. Surrounding them is a really decorative motif, perfectly symetrical, somewhat recalling traditional Persian carpets, but actually a unique contemporary design.
We love the use of the 10 colors, similar to the natural dyes used for woolen carpets, as well as the clever use of DMC variations colors that add to the natural feel.
As the motif covers the whole surface, you could stitch this pattern in needlework, on canvas.
Note: the chart does not include instructions for finishing with a fringe.
