CROSS STITCH PATTERN READY TO DOWNLOAD, DESIGNED BY Barbara Ana Designs

From the outside, this is a traditional can of sardines, a tasty one, preserved in olive oil. The can is of the old fashionned sort, that needs a special metallic opener that rolls the top open (not a ring top), and it is indeed unsealed.

Glimpse inside and, oh surprise, laying neatly side by side with the fish, is a bikini clad beauty, hips wrapped in a colorful towel. Does the tail belong to her, or to another fish? Is she a mermaid? We'll never know.

To add to the mystery, Barbara Ana adds: "The sardine is actually a plushie :)". We'll let you decipher this one on your own...

Cross stitch-wise, the pattern is extra colorful and super fun to stitch. It's quite small too. All stitches are full cross stitches, except for the mermaid's eyebrows worked in backstitch. The fabric chosen by the designer is a bright, grass green evenweave, that acts as an effective foil for the joyful and warm colors of the design. You can work on any fabric of you choice, including aida or over a single thread. As the background is fully stitched, you could also stitch it on any fabric color of your choice, but we would suggest to pick a bright color offering a cheerful contrast.
