La vie de château
Designer Perrette Samouiloff is passionate about costumes. For us cross stitchers, she imagines a scene at the French court, that of the young King Louis XIV (the future Sun King), at the time when the Marquise de Montespan became his favorite. Men wear wigs and heels. The king is in full discussion with his architect, planning the sumptuous château of Versailles. In the center of the room is a standing globe, typical of the time. On the right, a young woman plays with a small dog, perhaps trying to attract the attention of the king?
Let's skip a century. We are now in the splendor of the Palace of Versailles, in the middle of the 18th century, under the reign of Louis XV. In the royal galleries and the park there are numerous entertainments and games, conversation and gallant meetings ....

Sadie Woods - one year later
New from Barbara Ana, a sampler "by" Sadie Woods, and dated 1901, one year later than the original "Sadie Woods" would have been stitched. Compared to Sadie's "first work" (see below), it is more sophisticated and beautifully laid out, showing how the child would gradually be turning into a young girl, yet it retains the same spontaneity and charm.
The sampler is cross stitched on the same rustic fabric, with similar color schemes as the original work. Together they form a beautiful pair.
More Barbara Ana Designs: Young girl samplers
These are not reproduction samplers, but rather the designer expressing herself, in the manner of an author writing a novel in the first person, and incarnating a character of her imagination, each with her personality and style.

Ornamental flower motif - vintage wallpaper style
The motif for the September page of Gracewood Stiches' calendar collection of patterns is Carnations. It is stitched in Assisi cross stitch style which means stitching the surrounding background and leaving the central motif void - and therefore standing out by contrast.
