Antique sampler with poppies
REPRODUCTION SAMPLER CHARTED BY MURIEL BERCEVILLE - COUNTED CROSS STITCH
This is a remarkable reproduction sampler with the most gorgeous border of red poppies running all around the stitched piece.
A hare, goat, deer and poppy border adorn this sampler inspired by "Berlin Embroidery". Berlin Embroidery was introduced by a German printer and rapidly spread throughout Europe.
Known as "broadsheets" and hand painted for color, this new technique provided striking visual alternatives to existing sampler designs. Most popular themes were flowers, wreaths, baskets, animals and scenes of children playing. Berlin Embroidery was used for both cross stitch and tapestry.
A faithful reproduction of an antique alphabet, charted by Muriel Berceville.
